Alongside multi-record-type inline editing, Winter '27 adds a second list view editing improvement: inline edits no longer have to respect page layout membership.
Where
Setup, under User Interface: a new setting named Remove List View Inline Edit Dependencies on Page Layout. It is optional and off by default.
How
Previously, a field had to be present on the page layout before users could inline edit it in a list view, even when their field-level security allowed editing. With the setting enabled, users can inline edit any field they have edit access to, regardless of whether it appears on the layout.
Why
Admins frequently added fields to layouts purely to unlock list view editing, cluttering record pages as a workaround. Decoupling the two lets field-level security be the single source of truth for what users can edit in lists.
